The PSLV-C47 carrying remote sensing satellite Cartosat-3 and 13 U.S.Nanosatellites took off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota on Wednesday morning. ISRO announced the timing of launch through his twitter handle.

The satellite was launched at 9:28 AM IST on PSLV-C47 rocket along 13 other commercial nanosatellites from the US with the whole event being telecasted live on ISRO’s YouTube channel and Doordarshan.
The launch which was earlier scheduled for November 25th, was delayed by two days due to some reasons (that are unknown) by the space agency. The satellites were put in Sun Synchronous orbit with CARTOSAT-3 satellite being placed in a 509-km far away orbit at an inclination of 97.5 degrees.

This launch marked the 21st flight of India’s Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) in ‘XL’ configuration and 74th launch vehicle mission overall from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre.

Cartosat-3 a third-generation satellite with high-resolution imaging capability is an earth observation satellite with a mass of 1,625 kg. It would be useful for weather mapping, cartography, and army defense and other strategic applications. The Cartosat series of satellites are designed to replace the Indian Remote Sensing (IRS) satellites which were first launched in the year 1988.

Interestingly, Cartosat-3 was originally planned to be launched in 2014 aboard PSLV. However, ISRO launched additional satellites in the Cartosat-2 series through 2017 including Cartosat 2D/2E.
