With the announcement of election dates in Delhi yesterday the Election Commission of India (ECI) is all set for experiments during this election. After bringing in measures like Voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT) for ensuring transparency in the electoral process the ECI is all set to beef the voter identification features.
During the next month’s election in Delhi, voters would be issued digital photo voter slips containing QR codes. This would be the first time that a digital photo voter slip would be issued for elections in India.
The idea behind the move is easy identification and fast polling at the booth. Voters can download their digital photo voter slip from the ‘Voter Helpline’ app that is available on Google Playstore and Apple app store.
To download the digital slip voters would be required to link their mobile number with that of their voter id card or EPIC number. In another first voter carrying digital photo voter slip within the voter helpline app would be allowed to carry the mobile phone inside the polling station.
That’s not all Election Commission has also proposed to use Artificial Intelligence tools to predict the length of the queue in polling stations through the Voter Helpline Mobile app. This would provide voters the information about the best time to go for polling.

The poll party will scan the pre-printed booth slip consisting of a unique QR code to mark the attendance of electors for voting. Disabled voters and those above 80 years of age will have the option to seek postal ballot paper for casting votes. Senior citizens will also get the pick and drop facility for voting.
The elections to the 70 seat assembly would be held on 8th February with the results being announced on 11th February.
