Rajya Sabha elections have started today, the voting has begun to fill 16 vacant seats for the upper house of the parliament. There are 41 candidates who are elected without any challengers. Rajya Sabha elections will also provide the vision for Presidential elections to be conducted in July.

This election drive will fill the 16 vacant seats of “Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Haryana.”
Across 15 states there are 57 vacant seats out of which BJP held 23 seats, 8 were claimed by Congress and the rest of the seats are divided among other parties.
Intense competition can be seen in Rajasthan and Maharashtra which are under the major influence of opposition parties.
There are 11 seats in Uttar Pradesh and six seats each in Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
Rajasthan has five seats whereas Karnataka, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh have three seats each. Three seats each from Madhya Pradesh and Odisha are also vacant.
Meanwhile, this election drive will also fill two seats each of Punjab, Jharkhand, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Telangana and a seat of Uttarakhand.
Among all the contestants the eminent ones that can be seen are “Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharaman and Piyush Goyal, Congress’s Randeep Surjewala, Jairam Ramesh and Mukul Wasnik, and Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut.”
In Maharashtra, Rajya Poll is being conducted for almost after two decades. The alliance of Shiv Sena, Congress and Sharad Pawar’s NCP are facing minor hardships after their MLAs were arrested and not granted bail for voting.

Since 1990, BJP has become the first party which managed to cross the 100 mark in Rajya Sabha. And it is obvious that this election gives us a glimpse of Presidential Elections in which party’s favour it will be.
In 2017 the last presidential elections were held and since then Jammu and Kashmir went under President’s Rule. whereas, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu went under the influence of opposition.
