Ramanand Sagar’s popular TV show is shattering records like it has one job. And this time it is bigger than ever. Ramayana has now become the world’s most-watched show as on April 16 with 7.7 cores viewers tuning in to watch the same.
The news was shared by the official handle of DD India where it wrote: “Rebroadcast of #Ramayana on #Doordarshan smashes viewership records worldwide, the show becomes most watched entertainment show in the world with 7.7 crore viewers on 16th of April.”
When the show was broadcasted for the first time back in 1987, it had broken all the records. And so many years later, the history repeated itself.
The 78 episodes long show was broadcasted for the first time on January 25, 1987, to July 31, 1988. Then, every Sunday, at 9.30 a.m. the show was aired on TV. The serial is based on Valmiki’s Ramayana and Tulsidas’ Ramcharitmanas.
From 1987 to 1988, Ramayan became the most-watched serial in the world. Till June 2003, it remained recorded in the Limca Book of Records as “the most-watched mythological serial in the world”.
