With a perspective towards increasing customer safety and convenience, RBI has issued new bank locker guidelines. This move comes following the complaints of several users regarding the bank lockers facilities offered by many lenders in the country. After reviewing such negative responses, RBI decided to change the core principles of this service, which are already in effect from January 1, 2022.
RBI Modifies Bank Locker Guidelines
In Case of Theft, the Bank Will Compensate
Many complaints made to RBI carried the issue of goods being stolen from the locker. To stop this non-business-friendly activity, RBI has taken strict measures. Now banks will compensate you if any goods are missing or stolen from your locker. With this decision now banks have even more to worry about, their responsibility has increased.
CCTV Is Mandatory
It’s now mandatory for all the banks to install CCTV camera setups, especially for locker rooms. Moreover, they will have to record and save the footage of the latest 180 days. In case of any discrepancy, the CCTV recording will be checked.
Sending SMS Alerts And Emails
Every time a bank customer will access its bank locker, an SMS alert with an e-mail confirmation will be sent to them.

A list of Empty Lockers Will Be Publicly Available
First of all, a complete status report about the bank locker will be sent to the customer. A list of empty lockers will be created and will be made publicly available. Display Boards will be used to portray the list to the customers visiting the bank.
