Vikramaditya Singh, the Minister of Public Works and Urban Development for Himachal Pradesh, opened a long-awaited elevator at Shimla’s Middle Bazaar. The elevator, which was constructed as part of the Smart City Mission, runs straight from Middle Bazaar to Mall Road.
Each user will pay a fixed rate of Rs 10; tickets are good for 12 hours. The elevator is particularly useful for visitors and older residents, and it can hold up to eight individuals at once.
The project was finished in two years for Rs 1.77 crore. The lift has a foot overbridge that is 24 meters long and 1.5 meters wide. For the following five years, the lift will be run and maintained by the Rapid Transport System Development Corporation (RTDC).
Plans For Multi-Storey Parking And More
For the convenience of devotees, the Shimla Municipal Corporation is considering a plan to build a multi-story steel-structured parking space at Jakhu Temple that includes an escalator.
In the upcoming months, Vikramaditya Singh intends to develop more parking lots close to Vikas Nagar, the SDA Complex, the Auckland Cancer Hospital, and the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital.
There will be enough for around 2,000 automobiles thanks to these additional facilities. The Cart Road will be expanded, and possible links to the bypass at several locations will be looked into in an effort to reduce traffic congestion.
Other Actions For Urban Development
Efforts are ongoing to remove Shimla’s overhead cable tangled. Electricity, fibre, and telecom cables will be routed underground from Chhota Shimla to Mall Road.
The government is also constructing a Rs 1,600-crore ropeway system in Shimla to connect key areas of the city. This initiative intends to reduce traffic congestion and improve the tourism sector by improving connectivity and smoother transportation.
Minister Singh highlighted the need to keep Shimla clean and lovely, describing it as a “mini Himachal” with residents from all across the state. He asked everyone to help preserve the city’s attractiveness.
