The Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Industries is all set to woo Indians with the relaunch of its popular 4G smartphones in the next quarter.
As per a report by ET, Jio aims to cash on the ongoing work from home culture and allow people the benefit of both cheap data and 4G handset. Jio explains that despite the lockdown having lifted, many companies, schools are still not in favour of reopening any time soon. Thus, there is a demand for 4G-related things, which Jio aims to fill up.
The relaunch of Jio’s 4G feature phone will be followed up with the launch of its proposed entry-level smartphone, being developed in partnership with Google, later next year.

JioPhone was launched back in 2018 but soon vanished from the market due to component sourcing issues. When launched, Jio turned out to become the largest phone maker brand in India.
The first JioPhone was launched at ₹1,500 and was specially made for people wanting to enjoy 4G internet without having to spend money on an expensive cellphone.
Few months after the launch of JioPhone 1, the company launched QWERTY-led JioPhone 2 at a price of Rs 2,999. This phone has a larger display and additional apps.

Sensing the competition and demand as of now, reports suggest that even Airtel is mulling partnering with handset vendors like Lava and Karbonn to develop and sell low cost 4G smartphones.
