Reliance Jio has launched three new ‘True Unlimited Upgrade add-on plans in response to recent criticism over the end of popular inexpensive prepaid plans. The new initiative attempts to ease consumer concern about the most recent tariff increases.
The recently released add-on plans need to be added to an existing plan; they cannot be purchased separately. They provide unlimited 5G connectivity, but only if the customer is linked to the Jio True 5G network and has a 5G-capable gadget. The data limit is determined by the specifics of each plan when the network transitions to 4G.

The introduction of these new add-on plans comes in response to consumer concerns over the cancellation of earlier, more reasonable prepaid plans. These plans, which were standalone and featured unlimited 5G data, were the ₹1559 and ₹359 plans.
In addition to these additional options, customers will only be able to access unlimited 5G data if they have prepaid plans that provide 2GB or more of data each day. Plans that have a daily data restriction of 1.5GB or less are required to follow their data caps.
Reliance Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea have all hiked their tariffs, resulting in a 25% rise on all prepaid, postpaid, and data plans. The biggest price hikes have been seen in annual plans, where certain packages now cost ₹3,599 instead of ₹2,999.
Telecom customers’ resentment over the price increases has given rise to the ‘BoycottJio’ movement on X. At the same time, some users posted selfies taken with their new BSNL SIM cards, starting a trend known as “BSNL ki ghar wapsi.”
