The Supreme Court on Monday assigned two senior judges to talk to protesters at Shaheen Bagh after it held that roads are not the right place to protests. “Right to protest is a fundamental right. What is the alternative area they can continue the protests without blocking the road?” the Supreme Court asked to which the Delhi Police replied, “They can choose a place.”

The court then told the lawyer representing the protesters that they can continue the protest but not on the roads. “Give us some time, we will do it,” the lawyer replied. The top court assigned two mediators to talk to the people after the police complained that “protesters, mostly women, are “keeping children in the front as a shield”.
