Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the issuing body of Aadhaar Card in the country has developed many ways to make it easier for citizens to access their Aadhaar Card information.
Aadhaar card is used for KYC in several government and private works which are important for a user. Over the years it has become one of the most important government ID cards. Other government ID Card are PAN Card, Passport and Voter ID Card. Government has recognized that people misuse Aadhaar card in various ways.
In the sight of people misusing the identity card, government has given permission to UIDAI to impose huge penalties on people caught in act of violations. The government also asked UIDAI to appoint officials that can identify such individuals and prosecute such individuals.

In November 2021, government notified that UIDAI has the power to file a complain against a person who is found violating rules and regulations. The appointed officials can impose fine up to Rs 1 crore on such individual or entity. Appellate Tribunal and Telecom Disputes Settlement will be appellate authority against decision made by appointed officer.
There is notice on the official website of UIDAI that reads, “Penalty for failure to comply with provisions of this Act, rules, regulations and directions [Section 33A] – upto Rs. 1 crore for each contravention.”
According to Aadhaar Law, providing false biometric or demographic information is also an offense. If anyone will be found guilty under this offence there will be an imprisonment of 3 years and monetary fine of Rs 10,000.
According to UIDAI, taking someone else’s identity and changing demographic and biometric detail also will cause 3 years imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 10000. You are advised to keep your Aadhaar card updated and do not get involved in any illegal offense in future.
