Cricketing legend ‘Sachin Tendulkar‘ on Monday received the popular ‘Laureus’ award for the best sporting moment. The little master bagged the award for the 2011 World Cup triumph at home.
The award was given for the best sporting moment from 2000-2020, that is the last 20 years. The moments after the World Cup win at home when Sachin was carried on shoulders by teammates was chosen as the sporting moment of the last 2 decades.
Tendulkar, competing in his sixth and last World Cup in 2011, finally realized his long-term dream. Then skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni smacked Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Kulasekara out of the park for a winning six. The six itself is a symbol of the triumph.
Backed by Indian fans the moment emerged as the winner with maximum votes. India lifted the World Cup only the second time after the 1983 triumph. Former Australian skipper Steve Waugh handed the trophy to Tendulkar after tennis legend Bros Becker announced the winner at a glittering ceremony.

“It’s incredible. The feeling of winning the world cup was beyond what words can express. How many times you get an event happening where there are no mixed opinions. Very rarely the entire country celebrates,” Tendulkar said after receiving the trophy.
