Scientists have found a new way to detect and count stranded whales from the space by analyzing satellite images. This new detection method will use Very High Resolution (VHR) satellite images to help scientists reveal stranding events happening.

This will revolutionise how stranded whales are located when they die or end up on shores after dying in remote places. In 2015, over 340 whales were stranded in Chile’s Patagonia region, and not discovered for several weeks due to the region’s remoteness.
