The market saw a positive response in the opening hours of business post the festive break on Wednesday. Sensex crossed the 40,000 mark first time since July this year.

BSE jumped over 250 times on Wednesday. The inflow of foreign funds and the expectations of tax sops for equity investors was the reason driving this jump in the market.

Bharti Airtel, L&T, Infosys, ITC, Vedanta, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Auto, Kotak Bank etc were the top gainers from the spike in trade.
