In a grueling gun battle on Friday Uttar Pradesh (U.P.) Police lost it’s 8 Bravehearts in the line of duty. The incident took place around 1 AM on Friday. The Kanpur police team had gone to raid history-sheeter Vikas Dubey with around 60 criminal cases in his name. As police raided the Bikaru village in search of Vikas Dubey, it came under attack of Dubey’s men who were prepared with arms on the rooftop of a building.
As a result of the gun battle Deputy SP Devendra Mishra, three sub-inspectors and four constables dead succumbed to bullet injuries. Under IPC Section 307 (attempt to murder) was lodged against history-sheeter Vikas Dubey and the police team had gone to arrest him late on Thursday night (Friday 1 AM). JCB earthmoving machines were put up on the road which obstructed the police vehicles.
As a result of this the police team to get down from their vehicles when the criminals opened fire. Being on rooftops the criminals were on an advantageous position having been able to see the cops and killed 8 policemen. Police also fired in retaliation and as per reports from Zee News 3 criminals were killed in that. However, Vikas Dubey managed to escape the scenes. The entire area where the encounter took place has been sealed and fingerprints of the criminals are being collected to identify the group. Police is surveying mobile phone signals from 500 phones in the area to track the criminals.
Border areas of Kanpur division have been sealed and all border checkpoints have heightened security. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolence to the families of the eight police personnel. A Special Task Force (STF) has been deployed to look into the matter.
ADG Law and Order Prashant Kumar said, “Operation is still underway as criminals managed to escape, taking advantage of the dark”. Further, he said that around seven other police personnel have been injured in the encounter.
