A new high-tech police booth has been introduced at Terminal 3 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. The booth offers a range of digital services to enhance passenger safety and convenience.
Developed collaboratively by Delhi Police and Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), the booth was inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. This initiative is part of broader efforts to improve airport security and implement modern policing solutions.
The facility provides several integrated features, including real-time flight updates, emergency helpline access, and live CCTV surveillance of terminal areas. Travelers can use the booth to file e-FIRs, report lost belongings, or register missing person complaints—services that previously required a visit to a police station.
An interactive digital panel at the booth supplies travelers with essential information about airport services, including transportation options, tourist spots, shopping and dining areas, nearby hospitals, metro stations, and emergency services. The booth operates 24/7 and is staffed by trained male and female officers.
Equipped with computers, printers, scanners, Wi-Fi, and direct data links to airport systems, the booth is designed to enable quick response to security incidents and passenger grievances.
Officials highlighted that the smart police booth aligns with the Delhi Police’s ongoing smart policing initiatives under the Digital India framework. It serves as a model for incorporating technology into public safety infrastructure.
During the launch event, Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora and Additional Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport) Usha Rangnani presented an overview of the booth’s features. Special Commissioner of Police Robin Hibu emphasized its role in building public trust and ensuring faster resolution of complaints.
A short video demonstrating the booth’s capabilities was screened at the event, and DIAL CEO Vijay Kumar Jaipuriar was honored for the airport’s involvement in the project. Certificates were also presented to trainers who led self-defense workshops for women employed in Aerocity’s hospitality sector.
