A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Lucknow on Wednesday acquitted all accused in the Babri Masjid demolition case. Pronouncing the verdict on the 1992 case, the court said that the demolition of the structure was “spontaneous and not pre-planned.”
The verdict comes three decades after the demolition of 16th-century Babri Massib in Ayodhya. The structure was demolished by Kar Sevaks after alleged communal enticing speeches by LK Advani, former Union minister MM Joshi, former Union minister Uma Bharti and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh.

Followers of Sangh Parivar, a group spawned out of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), were also said to be present during the demolition. They allegedly chanted ‘Ek Dhakka Aur do, Babri Masjid Tod do‘.
The court while reading its 2000-page-long verdict said that there is not enough evidence to prove the role of the main 48 accused leaders in the demolition of the Babri Masjid. Moreover, there is no mention of lakhs of Kar Sevaks who did the actual deed because of course, crowd has no face.
Audio of speech by LK Advani was also interrogated by the CBI. The court observed that the audio of the speech was not clear and neither was there any authenticity in the audio and video provided by the CBI.
The case, for the unaware, dates back to 1993 when the Central Bureau of Investigation had filed a single, consolidated charge sheet against 48 people, among whom Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray and Kalyan Singh were also included.
