When friends return home or organize an enjoyable party at home, everyone considers how much alcohol is sufficient. But let me alert you that having a little more might cost you. So here’s an in-depth overview of how much liquor you can store at home without leading to any legal issues.

Alcohol Storage Limits in India

Delhi: Delhi residents are allowed to store up to 18 litres of liquor at home (including beer and wine), but no more than 9 litres of rum, whiskey, vodka, or gin. Only one litre of alcohol can be transported outside of Delhi.

Haryana: Haryana’s stock restrictions include 6 bottles of local liquor (750 ml each), 18 bottles of IMFL (750 ml each, with no more than 6 being imported foreign liquor), 12 beer bottles (650 ml), 6 rum bottles (750 ml), 6 vodka/cider/gin bottles (750 ml), and 12 wine bottles.

Punjab: Punjab residents can keep two bottles of IMFL, one case of beer (650 ml each bottle), two bottles of any foreign liquor (1 or 5 litres), two domestic liquor bottles, and one bottle of brandy.

Uttar Pradesh: The legal limit is 1.5 litres of foreign alcoholic drinks (both Indian-made and imported). Wine is 2 litres, whereas beer is 6 litres.

Andhra Pradesh: Andhra Pradesh allows residents to store up to three bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) or foreign liquor and six beer bottles without a permit.

Arunachal Pradesh: The Arunachal Pradesh Excise Act prohibits the possession of more than 18 litres of IMFL or Country Liquor without a valid liquor license.

West Bengal: Individuals over the age of 21 can purchase and store up to six bottles of Indian Manufactured Foreign Liquor (750 ml each). Furthermore, they can keep up to 18 beer bottles without a license.

Assam: Retail sales are restricted to 12 bottles of IMFL, 4.5 litres of rectified or denatured spirit, and three bottles (750 ml each) of “reputed” national spirit per person every day.

Goa: Goa residents are permitted a maximum of 12 IMFL bottles, 24 beer bottles, 18 national liquor bottles, and 6 bottles of rectified and denatured spirit.

Himachal Pradesh: Himachal Pradesh allows residents to possess 48 beer bottles and 36 whiskey bottles.

Kerala: The maximum allowed alcohol intake is 3 litres of IMFL and 6 litres of beer.

Madhya Pradesh: For a yearly charge, high-income residents can keep up to 100 “expensive” alcohol bottles in their houses.

Maharashtra: In Maharashtra, consuming alcohol requires a license. Permits are required for acquiring, transporting, and drinking alcoholic drinks, both domestic and foreign.

Rajasthan: Citizens in Rajasthan can carry up to 12 bottles (or nine litres) of IMFL.

Jammu and Kashmir: In Jammu and Kashmir, permitted storage comprises 12 bottles of IMFL (containing 750 ml JK Desi Whisky) and 12 beer bottles (650 ml each).

Dry States: Mizoram, Gujarat, Bihar, Nagaland, and Lakshadweep are dry states, meaning alcohol is fully prohibited. Violating this law can have significant repercussions.
