Step-by-Step Guide to Link Aadhaar with EPF for Smooth Fund Access
For employees contributing to the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF), linking their Aadhaar with their Universal Account Number (UAN) is an essential process. Doing so makes verification easier, enables faster withdrawals, and simplifies updating personal details. Employees can complete this linking through different methods—online, offline, or via the UMANG mobile application.
Linking Aadhaar via EPFO Portal
The easiest and most commonly used option is the online method through the EPFO’s Member e-SEWA portal. Employees need to log in using their UAN and password, then go to the ‘Manage’ tab and select ‘KYC’. On this page, Aadhaar details along with other documents like PAN can be entered. Once submitted, the details first appear under the ‘Pending KYC’ section. After employer and EPFO verification, Aadhaar successfully reflects under the ‘Approved KYC’ tab, completing the process.
Linking Aadhaar Offline at EPFO Office
For those who are not comfortable with online processes, Aadhaar can be linked offline by visiting the nearest EPFO office. Members must fill out a form with their Aadhaar, UAN, and other required details, and submit it along with self-attested copies of relevant documents such as Aadhaar, PAN, and UAN card. Once the details are verified by officials, the Aadhaar number gets linked, and a confirmation message is sent to the registered mobile number.
Linking Aadhaar through UMANG App
The UMANG mobile app is another convenient way for employees familiar with digital platforms. After logging in with an MPIN or OTP, users can go to the ‘All Services’ section and choose the EPFO option. Under ‘eKYC services’, select ‘Aadhaar Seeding’ and provide UAN details. An OTP will be sent to the registered mobile number linked with Aadhaar. After entering Aadhaar details and completing OTP verification, the Aadhaar number gets linked to the EPF account, with status updated under the ‘Approved KYC’ section.
Why Aadhaar-EPF Linking Is Important
Aadhaar is now the primary identity verification tool in India, making its linkage with EPF highly significant. It prevents fraudulent withdrawals, ensures seamless fund transfers, and confirms compliance with regulations. For employees, it means secure and quick access to their provident fund, while for employers, it helps in maintaining accurate and validated records.
Things to Keep in Mind
- Ensure that the name, date of birth, and gender in your Aadhaar match exactly with EPF records. Any mismatch can delay the approval process.
- Update Aadhaar details through the UIDAI portal before starting the linking process if discrepancies exist.
- For online and UMANG app methods, make sure the Aadhaar-linked mobile number is active, as OTP verification is mandatory. Employees without this facility should use the offline route.
