Step-By-Step Guide to Transferring Vehicle Ownership After Buying a Used Car

When you purchase an automobile or motorcycle from someone else, ownership must be transferred. This procedure, which is subject to local motor vehicle legislation, might occasionally appear challenging. As a result, we are making the process of effortlessly transferring car ownership simpler here.

First of all, you have 30 days from the date of purchase to transfer ownership of a used car. A copy of current insurance, the original Registration Certificate (RC), evidence of address such as a voter ID, a Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate, completed Form No. 29, a crime report from the N.C.R.B., and completed Form No. 30 are all necessary for this process. You must do these actions after gathering these materials.

Obtain No Objection Certificate (NOC)

Only if the car is registered in an RTO outside of your local region is this required. Fill out Form 28 and send it to the vehicle’s original RTO to obtain the NOC. Send Form 29 to the RTO if the car was registered outside of Delhi.

Visit The Local RTO With The Required Documents

The original RC, a copy of the G.I.R., Forms 29, 30, and 35 (if the vehicle is hypothecated), Form 60 or 61 (for vehicles only), a proof of address, a PUC certificate, a valid driver’s license, passport-sized pictures of the new owner, and a PAN card are among these. Transfers from a business to a person could need additional paperwork.

Submit All Documents

Send in the required paperwork and the required payment for the RC transfer. You may monitor the transfer status online, and the procedure typically takes 30 days.

Vehicle Re-Registration

You will need to re-register the car with your local RTO if it was initially registered outside of your state. Provide supporting documentation, such as the original RC, Forms 20, 27, 33, 60, or 61, NOC, proof of address, PUC certificate, a valid driver’s license, passport-sized pictures of the new owner, and a PAN card.

Pay Road Tax

If the car was registered outside of Delhi, pay the road tax. The sum is determined by the original invoice price of the car. Depending on the car’s age and price, you can also request a reimbursement of the former owner’s original road tax. Send in the required paperwork to receive your tax refund.
