Step-by-Step Guide To Update Your Aadhaar Card Photo Effortlessly
If your Aadhaar card photo doesn’t reflect your current appearance or you’re simply unhappy with how it looks, there’s an easy way to refresh it. Your Aadhaar card is an essential ID for accessing many services, so keeping it up-to-date is important.
Why Change Your Aadhaar Photo?
A clear and recent photo on your Aadhaar ensures hassle-free identification at banks, airports, and government offices. If the picture is outdated or unclear, you might face delays or complications when using your Aadhaar as proof of identity.
Where and How to Update Your Aadhaar Photo
Changing your Aadhaar photo can’t be done online. You have to visit an official Aadhaar Enrolment or Update Centre in person.
Here’s how the process works:
- Visit a nearby Aadhaar Enrolment Centre: Locate your closest centre and make sure to visit during working hours.
- Fill the update form: The form is available at the centre and can also be downloaded from the UIDAI website. Complete the form with your details.
- Give biometric information: After submitting the form, you’ll be asked to provide your biometrics—this usually includes fingerprint and iris scans.
- Get your new photo taken: The officer at the centre will click a fresh, live photo as part of the update.
- Pay the nominal fee: There is a standard fee of Rs 100 for updating your Aadhaar photo.
- Collect your acknowledgement slip: Once the process is complete, you’ll receive a slip containing your Update Request Number (URN). This unique number lets you track the status of your update.
No additional paperwork or documentation is needed for a photo update—just bring your existing Aadhaar card.
Getting Your Updated Aadhaar Card
Once your photo has been updated at the centre, it generally takes around 30 days for the changes to reflect in the database. Occasionally, it might take up to 90 days. After the update, you can download your new Aadhaar card with the updated photo from the UIDAI website. For this, you’ll need your Aadhaar Number, Enrolment ID, or Virtual ID and a registered mobile number for OTP verification.
When you download your e-Aadhaar, remember that the password will consist of the first four letters of your name in CAPITALS followed by your year of birth.
