The UIDAI provides an Aadhaar Virtual ID, a 16-digit temporary ID that may be used in place of your Aadhaar number to protect privacy in Aadhaar-related transactions. By maintaining the confidentiality of your real Aadhaar number and facilitating simple ID changes when necessary, this virtual ID may be utilized for services that need Aadhaar authentication.
In India, Aadhaar is necessary to obtain several government benefits and services. The Aadhaar virtual ID was established by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) in response to the growing significance of data privacy.
What is a virtual Aadhaar ID?
An alternative to your real Aadhaar number is the Aadhaar virtual ID, which is a transient and revocable identifier. It improves your security and privacy by enabling you to verify your identity without disclosing private information. For customers who are hesitant to provide their Aadhaar number for fear of abuse, this function is very helpful.
Step 1: Visit the UIDAI website
Firstly visit uidai.gov.in, the official UIDAI website, to get started. To protect yourself against such phishing scams, make sure you are on a legitimate website.
Step 2: Go to the section on virtual IDs.
Click the “My Aadhaar” link on the UIDAI webpage. The option to generate and retrieve your virtual ID is located under this menu. To continue, click on the appropriate link.
Step 3: Verify your Aadhaar identity
You must confirm your Aadhaar to create a virtual ID. There are two methods for doing this:
- Biometric authentication: Visit a nearby Aadhaar enrollment center and use your fingerprint or iris scan.
- OTP authentication: To obtain a One-Time Password (OTP), enter your registered cellphone number. The phone number associated with your Aadhaar will get this OTP.
Step 4: Create the virtual ID
After authenticating successfully, create your virtual ID by following the on-screen directions. You will receive a new 16-digit virtual ID from the system. You can use this ID in place of your Aadhaar number for a variety of services.
Step 5: Note your virtual ID
Make sure to safely record your virtual ID when it has been generated. It guarantees the confidentiality of your real Aadhaar number and may be used for transactions that need Aadhaar verification.
Retrieving your virtual ID
Take these actions if you need to get your virtual ID back:
- Go back to the website of UIDAI.
- To obtain your virtual ID, select the option.
