Thunderstorms are all set to rattle northeast India for a day or two as per the Meteorological department. And happens to be, Doha, in Arab, is also expecting something similar.
In a crazy incident, strong winds at the Doha runway pushed an entire aircraft to collide with another parked at the airport.
As per the reports, the wind speed at the time of the collision was somewhere between 19kt (35 km/h) and 61kt (113 km/h). The 787, which was parked on the tarmac, was rotated 90 degrees and the cockpit hit the right side fuselage of the A350-900 – possible registration A7-ALJ – causing damage to both aircraft.
If you watch the video of the incident, you will be surprised to see how swiftly the plane turned and hit the other like someone was seating inside and driving it. This is what strong winds are capable of.
Even people were also surprised to see something like this:

The big vertical fin on the back is like the feathers on an arrow. They naturally align with the wind. In this case, they cause the plane to rotate and point into the wind. Once the force overcomes the friction of the wheels, it moves.

If the aircraft was turning it’s not uncommon for two of three three gears or only the nose gear to be chocked depending on the airlines ground handling rules.

It might be good to instruct to @qatarairways ramp managers to check the parking brake is ON on all their aircraft generally at the apron, and even moor them in case of high winds forecast. Everybody else does it. Get real.
