Sweden’s royal couple King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia visited Delhi on Monday for a 5-day tour of India. The Swedish royal couple has arrived in India on an Invitation from President Ram Nath Kovind.

The royal couple was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan and visited Rajghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. The aim of the 5 day along visit is to strengthen the good relations between Sweden and India, and to promote Swedish-Indian cooperation, including within the frameworks of the Joint Action Plan, the Innovation Partnership and existing memoranda of understanding.

During there visit the King and the Queen would also visit Mumbai and Uttarakhand apart from Delhi. The royal couple met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and would also meet External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar.

Apart from these meetings the itinerary of the royal couple includes attending a High-Level Policy Dialogue on Innovation Policy, a visit to the Versova Beach Cleaning activity, visit to Doorstep School (that provides education for children who are first-generation school-goers) and a Tekla Workshop and Dialogue which aims at correcting the under-representation of girls and women in technology.

Their majesties would also pay a visit to the Holy Ganga river in the Uttrakhand. This 5 day India visit is a second by the Swedish Royal couple after there first visit that was 26 years back in 1993.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Sweden last year following the historic state visit by former President Pranab Mukherjee in 2015. In 2016, Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven paid a visit to India.
