Factional feud in the Bhartiya Janta Party came to the fore just after BJP candidate’s list in West Bengal is announced. On Monday, more than hundreds of party supporters were staged outside its office at Hastings. This stage protest turned dramatic in Chinsurah, where a BJP leader tried to commit suicide to protest against the Locket Chatterjee nomination. Stage protestors also destroyed the BJP office.
The crowd heckled senior leaders like Shiv Prakash, Mukul Roy, and Arjun Singh. The candidate’s list for the 294 seats in West Bengal was expected to be a tough task for the BJP. Stage protesters demand is to withdraw the Mahit Ghanti nominee — a close aide of Rajib Banerjee — who is nominated from the Panchla Assembly seat in Howrah.

Surajit Ghosh (a BJP old-timer) said, “We want Mahit Ghanti to be interchanged immediately. He said that Ghanti does not know BJP’s heritage and tradition. We will not be in support if he races from Panchla.”
The protestors mainly include the old guards who wanted BJP to field either Bhabani Roy or Ranjan Pal from there. They chanted anti-party slogans and heckled some BJP senior leaders. They said that the Mahit Ghanti was involved in the ‘satta’ racket and joined the party recently whereas Rajib Banarjee had served the party for a long time.

Protest against Rabindranath Bhattacharya
Apart from the above, the protest against Rabindranath Bhattacharya is still going on just after the announcement of the BJP candidate’s list in West bengal. BJP old-timers covered-up the wall which was painted in favour of Bhattacharya. The BJP supporters said that the Rabindranath Bhattacharya had joined Bhartiya Janta Party just a week ago. “We are involved and taking part in all the party’s programmes from 2011. We cannot accept Rabindranath Bhattacharya who has recently joined the party,” said Biswarup Manna. Similarly, another protest is there at Udaynarayanpur, because the party has nominated Sumit Ranjan Karar.
In Uttarpara, BJP supporters covered-up the walls that were reserved for the party candidate Prabir Ghosal. Mr Ghosal has joined BJP recently after TMC.
