The BJP led Tripura government has said that it will provide financial assistance to students pursuing graduate courses to help them buy phones. The announcement, as per a report by Livemint, was made by Education and Law Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Wednesday.
The intuitive comes as a part of BJP’s 2018 assembly pre-poll promise. As many as 14,608 students will be given Rs 5,000 to purchase a smartphone.

“All the 14,608 students of 38 government-run higher education institutions pursuing graduate courses in medical, para-medical, engineering, science, arts, commerce, law, painting and music and nursing would get the one time financial support to purchase a smartphone,” Nath told IANS.
The government has also launched a dedicated new scheme called, “Mukhya Mantri Yuba Jogajog Yojana” that will ensure that the students are able to reap the benefits of the same.
To note, the financial aid to purchase the smartphone will be provided from the 2020-2021 academic year. This, on an average, will scoop out at least Rs 7.31 crore from the state government’s treasury.

“Through the smartphone, the student would gather the latest information about their academic curriculum and future career after completion of their graduate courses or when they pursue post graduate studies,” the Education Minister added.
