Every individual needs care in these times irrespective of caste, creed, sex, ethnicity, etc. And while we say that this state has proven that is not a mere statement. One of the vulnerable sections of society the transgender community is the least thought off during the pandemic.
Taking there need and care into consideration the state of Manipur has setup dedicated quarantine centers for them. 2 separate quarantine spaces, including a dedicated center for the transgenders have been set up in Imphal by the local administration. Doing so they have probably become the 1st state in the country to set up such centers.
A government school for blinds has been turned into the quarantine center for the community. “This facility will accommodate the trans community coming from ‘green zones’,”, said Ngangom Uttam Director, Social Welfare Department of Manipur. The move is taken by the government so as to ensure them emotional security during the pandemic, added Uttam.
“We have come across some instances where transgenders, who have returned to the state recently, have faced inconvenience when accommodated in quarantine centers together either with male and female occupants“, said the director. The state has presented an example for the rest of India with its approach.
This state is probably the 1st in the country to set dedicated Quarantine Centers For Transgender Community amidst the pandemic.
