Kamalpreet Kaur looked very much confident on her Olympic debut. The 25-year old lady from Patiala made the Olympic Stadium her own. She stunned the field in the Women’s Discus Throw qualification round.
Kamalpreet qualified for the Tokyo Olympics 2020 Women’s Discus Throw with a best of 64m. In fact, she was one of two throwers among 31-women field to seal automatic qualification with a 64m throw or above.
Her best throw of 64m was better than two-time Olympic champion Sandra Perkovic’s as she made a throw of 63.75m. Notably, Kaur had set the new national record earlier this year with a best throw of 66.59m, which is the 6th best throw in the world in 2021.
However, Kaur began with a 60.29m throw but improved to make it 63.97 in her second. Apart from this, Seema Punia finishes at 16 with (Seema Punia: Foul, 60.57m, 58.93m – Finishes 16th).

The Women’s Discus final will be on Monday, August 2. Meanwhile, Kamalpreet’s idol and 4-time Olympian Seema Punia failed to qualify for the final, finishing 12th with a best throw of 60.57m.
