Government of India has brought New Motor Vehicle Act 2022 w.e.f. September 1, 2019. You need to read this before you head out with your car for a drive if you don’t want traffic challan fine. Amendment in Motor Vehicles Act 1988 was first proposed by the government in 2017. The amendment bill received green flag from Lok Sabha but did not receive the same fate in Rajya Sabha. This resulted in discarding of the act in 2017.
A new bill was proposed in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in 2019 and it got green flag from both houses. After which penalties were increased by great number and public was not happy about it. Recently, a new bill was passed in the Parliament which further increased the penalties on road offences.
