Are you annoyed by the spoof calls made in the name of government officials and services? If yes, then this new feature rolled by Truecaller will put a smile on your face.
Truecaller has come up with a new feature for its Android users which helps them recognise the calls from Government officials or service providers fake and spoof calls. From now on, you would not have to pick up a call to realise it was not official but you would know it right after seeing your phone screen.
To make this possible, Truecaller added a digital directory to the application available for Android users. This digital directory has all the verified government officials’ and services’ mobile numbers. These numbers are claimed to be sourced from the government directly.
For you to identify these verified numbers from the spam calls, when a verified number will call you, the app will show its notification on the green coloured background along with a blue tick. So, if you see such a notification on a certain call, you would know that you can trust the certain call.
It should succeed in reducing the number of fraudulent calls made in the name of the government.
Truecaller mentioned in a blog post that “The new feature will also protect you from scammers who may spoof the name of government service providers, thus protecting you from the impact and harm of impersonation. With this initiative, we hope to help streamline public access to government representatives and assist our over 240 million Indian users in connecting with the government in a hassle-free manner.”
In the meantime, Turecaller has put the numbers from 20 central government ministries over 23 states and union territories. It has also promised to keep updating the said feature and add more numbers in the upcoming months.
