U.S President Trump Calls For Supply Of ‘Medicines’ From India To Fight COVID-19

United States (U.S.) which has reported the highest number of COVID-19 cases has now called for help from India. Having witnessed over 3, 37,000 cases and close to 10, 000 deaths the U.S. has called for medicinal help. The U.S. President Trump called PM Modi in this regard.

Though there is no proven medicine or vaccine to fight the pandemic an existing medicine has shown potential. Hydroxychloroquine, which is mostly used as an antimalarial drug has shown the potential. Since India has banned its export for a while to ensure sufficiency in the country the U.S. President called for help.

India’s strong Pharmaceutical industry has been manufacturing Hydroxychloroquine in excess from years. Administration of the drug on COVID-19 patients has shown that it prevents them from going on ‘ventilator support’. That is it has shown the results to prevent cases from going bad to worse. The fact is substantiated by studies conducted in U.S. as well.

The U.S President had a phone call with the Indian PM on Saturday. Trump requested India to release more of the drug. “I said I’d appreciate it if they would release the amounts that we ordered and they are giving it serious consideration“, said Trump. He also said that the drug can be a “game-changer”.   The U.S is also importing the drug from other countries as well.
