As the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is creating troubles in India foreign governments are also targeting it. The act which is allegedly grants Indian citizenship on communal lines has now been targeted by Seattle City council.
The Seattle City Council, one of the most powerful city councils in the U.S., unanimously passed a resolution condemning the act. The resolution against CAA was passed on Monday by the council. Resolution was also passed against the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Interestingly the resolution was moved by an Indian American City Council member Kshama Sawant. The resolution urges the Parliament of India to uphold the Indian Constitution. It calls for repealing the CAA and stopping of the National Register of Citizens.

The resolution also calls India to take steps towards helping refugees by ratifying various UN treaties on refugees. This International criticism of the act comes at a time when state governments are also passing resolutions against CAA. States like Kerala have even moved to court against it. Government, however, is not in a mood to go back on it.
