Coronavirus pandemic and the anxiety that follows with it is tough and only gets tougher if one is pregnant. A woman who is pregnant amidst the woes would surely think if she would get assistance in times when it’s most necessary.
And as an answer to the same, Upidpur police has come with a new initiative. The initiative is called “Hello Mommies” and is being carried by cops, especially women police officers.
The initiative is the brainchild of additional SP (city) Gopal Swaroop Mewara and three deputy rank officers Chetna Bhati, Sudha Palawat and Prem Dhande. They have started a WhatsApp group called Hello Mommies to provide health assitance to pregnant women.
“We are identifying expecting women in various colonies of the curfew-bound areas mainly under Surajpole, Ghantaghar, Ambamata and other police stations of the city. Beat constables and jawans on each check-post have been asked to prepare a list of their respective areas so that we have a database of pregnant women who might be in need of medical assistance even in the odd hours. We are feeding their numbers in the group so that they may reach us directly in case they require any kind of assistance during the curfew period.” Bhati told TOI.
The officers have asked the constables to make a list of pregant women in their areas and add their numbers to the Whatsapp group. Initially, they started with three local police station areas – Ghantaghar, Surajpur and Dhanmandi – but as soon as the news spared, requests poured in from other parts of the city as well.

The group is also being used to disturb sanitary pads to the ladies who need them. Clearly, it is the little things like these that are needed to make big difference right now.
