She is also the first Finance Minister to deliver eight consecutive union budgets. Morarji Desai set the previous record with six consecutive budget presentations.
Union Budget 2025 Date And Time
On Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11 a.m., Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to deliver the Union Budget 2025 to Parliament. However, this has not yet been formally confirmed by the central government.
The History Of India’s Union Budget Presentation’s Date And Time
Since 2017, the union budget has been submitted on February 1st, in order to make announcements before the start of the financial year in April. But before 1997, this was not the case. In those days, the Union Budget was usually delivered around 5 PM on the final working day of February.
This changed in 1997 when Finance Minister P. Chidambaram decided to announce the budget at 11 AM instead, hoping to increase transparency and give the markets more time to respond.
Then, in 2017, Arun Jaitley, the Finance Minister, changed the budget presentation to February 1. This was done to propose the budget well in advance of the next fiscal year, which runs from April 1 to March 31, and to avoid the election season in some states.
Additionally to all of this, the stock market will be open on that day at regular times so that investors have time to respond to the news.
