On Tuesday, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet has approved the scheme of distributing free smartphones and tablets to students who are pursuing higher studies. The UP government statement says that the scheme will put a burden of Rs. 3000 crore on the state exchequer.
The Chief Minister is authorized to make any minor or major amendments to resolve practical difficulties in the scheme. The PTI also states that the decision for distributing gadgets was taken keeping in mind the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, due to which classes are held online.
