UPI Serves Faced Outage, Users Complained
The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) servers were down for over an hour yesterday, now they have been restored. This temporary outage was faced by all UPI users across the country.
UPI users took it to Twitter and made complaints about the service disruption they were facing. Major UPI app users including Gpay, Paytm, & PhonePe highlighted that they were not able to execute UPI transactions for an hour. After the services were restored the users were notified about the outage by NPCI with a tweet.
The NPCI tweet says, “UPI services are working as usual. Some users may have experienced issues while using UPI for a brief period, around 8 PM today. The momentary issue with some UPI ecosystem partners has been resolved.’”
It is the second time UPI servers have been down for over an hour, first it was reported on January 9th of this year.

NPCI’s Real-Time Payment System
Over 60 per cent of the retail transactions in India are executed by UPI- a real-time payment system provided by NPCI. This payment system covers a huge volume of transactions being made across the country. 75 per cent share is covered by the transactions worth less than â‚ą100 out of a total 60 per cent. So, the majority of UPI transactions are low valued.
In March 540 Cr UPI transactions were made by the users worth â‚ą9.60 lakh Cr. Concerning lowering the load on banks and in-house servers, the NPCI is working continually to establish an efficient offline UPI transaction system.
