Moving towards an integrated model of transport Kochi is set to get its ‘water metro’ by the end of 2020. The Kochi Water Metro project which got clearance in October last year can be reality by November this year.
German Development Bank KfW had agreed to provide a loan of Rs 597 crore for the project. The project is financed by the Indo-German Bilateral Cooperation. It is a move towards ‘climate-friendly urban mobility’.
The water metro would be a jetty, unlike the train based thing. It will also serve as a feeder service to Kochi Metro network. Commuters would not have to buy a separate ticket for the two services. A single ticket for that purpose would be issued.
