In West Bengal, assembly election phases 5 are being held today. The polling started at 7 am and will continue till 6.30 pm. Phase 5 polling is being held for 45 seats across North 24 Parganas, Nadia, Purba Bardhaman, Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Kalimpong.
The West Bengal phase 5 is crucial for TMC as it has won 32 out of 45 seats in the last assembly election. However, this time TMC faces a challenge from the Bharatiya Janta Party. The fifth phase of campaigning has ended at 6 pm on Wednesday. The Bharatiya Janta Party and the Trinamool Congress continued trading blows over the Cooch Behar’s Sitalkuchi where four men killed by central security personnel.

In the fifth phase of the WB assembly election, 319 candidates, including 39 women, are in the fight. According to the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) report, one-fourth of these candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves.
The polling for phases 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the state elections took place on March 27, April 1, and April 6, and April 10, respectively.
