WhatsApp, the global instant messaging company, introduced more security enhancements on Thursday, including a back-end invisible check of devices on which the program is installed to help prevent malware on a device from interfering with the messaging app’s functions.
The company stated that “Mobile device malware is one of the biggest threats to people’s privacy and security today because it can take advantage of your phone without your permission and use your WhatsApp to send unwanted messages. To help prevent this, we have added checks to help authenticate your account- with no action needed from you – and better protect you if your device is compromised,”
WhatsApp will also implement a new security feature that will send extra alarms and alerts if someone else tries or attempts to move their messaging account from one registered device to another. WhatsApp will notify its users to confirm whether the users wish to switch their account to a new smartphone from their old smartphone.
According to the company, a third new security feature unveiled by WhatsApp is automated verification of a secure connection with the intended receiver of the message.
The WhatsApp officials mentioned that- “To that end, we are enhancing the key transparency by creating a new Auditable Key Directory (AKD) based on an open-source library.” “With the AKD, WhatsApp clients will be able to automatically validate that a user’s encryption key is genuine,”
