WhatsApp’s long-awaited payments service, WhatsApp Pay, is now available in India. The news of the availability was announced by WhatsApp via a tweet – “Starting today, people across India will be able to send money through WhatsApp Pay. This secure payments experience makes transferring money just as easy as sending a message”.

The launch of the service has been pending for a while as WhatsApp was awaiting the government’s approval and now it finally has it. So now we have one more way to send and receive money just like that.
Here’s how you can set up WhatsApp Pay
Step 1: Open WhatsApp and tap on the three-dotted icon at the top right corner of the screen.
Step 2: Now, tap on the ‘Payments’ option and you will have a list of bank accounts to choose from.
Step 3: Then select your respective bank account and your number (linked with the bank) will be verified. The process will require you to tap on Verify via SMS option.

Step 4: Then you simply will have to set a UPI pin for carrying out transactions similar to how you do it on other apps for security purposes.
How to send money on WhatsApp?
For your convenience, WhatsApp pay is a UPI-based payments service that has been available for beta users for a while. However, it is now live for everyone to use.
Just like any other payment application, WhatsApp too allows you to make payments once you link your UPI-enabled bank accounts on it. WhatsApp supports all popular banks like HDFC, ICICI, State Bank of India, Axis Bank and even Airtel Payments Bank.

Using WhatsApp Pay is as easy as sending photos and videos on the app. You need to head to the send money option by tapping on the share option on the chat and then select ‘payment’.
