A woman caught red-handed during an operation led by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights. She tried selling a newly-born baby for 3.5 lakh in Delhi. However, the infant was rescued and sent to children’s home.
NCPCR chief Priyank Kanoongo, received a tip-off about the child trafficking, led the operation where he posted as the customer. He told the woman that he was the brother of a woman who need of a baby.
As per the report, the accused woman was contacted on her mobile from an NCPCR official’s phone number. During the call, the woman said she was ready to sell a baby girl for Rs 3.5 lakh but the customer would have to pay Rs 25,000 in advance. She said the remaining amount could be paid after the baby was handed over.
The woman asked Kanoongo to come to Sai Baba Temple in Paschim Vihar (West) in Delhi. She also shared the details of one Priyanka and a Google Pay account. Kanoongo and two other officials reached to the given spot and informed Delhi Police’s Anti-Human Trafficking Unit about the operation.
Priyanka reached the spot with the baby and she asked him to pay Rs 25,000 in advance. The accused woman was then caught red-handed. An FIR has been registered at the Paschim Vihar (West) police under relevant sections of IPC and Juvenile Justice Act.
