During the debate on the Arms (Amendment) Bill, 2019 in Rajyasabha yesterday the Vice-President (who happens to be the Chairman of Rajyasabha) M. Venkaiah Naidu said that ” women don’t need firearms, others will protect you “.
The remarks from the Vice-President came when two women MPs of the house asked to speak during the debate and discussion on the bill. Replying to the women MPs he said, “In my opinion, women don’t need firearms, others will protect you”.

Rajyasabha was wrapping up the discussion on the bill when the women MPs made the request and the Chairman bought to there notice that the time allotted to the discussion had finished. However, later she allowed one of the two women MPs to speak.
