Microblogging giant Twitter on Tuesday said that the world political leaders are not above its rule and could see their messages removed or demoted if they violate the company’s policies. “We want to make it clear today that the accounts of world leaders are not above our policies entirely,” the company said in a blog post.

This comes after Twitter and Facebook stated that the platforms will not delete ‘newsworthy’ posts of politicians, even if they violate companies’ hate speech rules. “Let users judge what politicians say themselves” they added.
