In an attempt to align with the target of reducing road accidents by half (75,000) in the country, the government is coming up with all types of stringent rules. In the new rule, Union Minister For Road Transport And Highways, Nitin Gadkari, in Lok Sabha on Thursday announced that passing license test will now get tougher with people needing to go through major tests including precisely reversing vehicles to get the license.

The Union Minister said that the passing percentage to acquire a driving license has now been fixed at 69% across RTOs across the country.
In case one seeks a vehicle that will have a reverse gear, reversing it into a limited opening either to the right or left under control and with reasonable accuracy will be one of the parameters to qualify for the license. In the end, reversing the vehicle in tight spots will also be judged.
He also shared that there are as many as 50 driving schools and institutions approved by the Transport Department, Government of NCT of Delhi for imparting driving training to the drivers.
A video link for the driving skill test demo will also be provided to applicants at the time of booking an appointment for a driving skill test.
The union minister further added that some services related to driving license have been completely made online. These services, which a related to driving licences and certificate of registration, he said, will lessen the instances of corruption and faster delivery of services.
The minister requested the states to inform about the services to the people so they can avail them at the earliest.
The Road Transport ministry has already undertaken steps for the facilitation of citizens including that all forms, fees and documents under the Act can be submitted online to avoid human intervention. The steps include dealer point registration.
The driving license can be renewed anytime between one year before the expiration of the same or 1 year after expiration.
