As the COVID-19 aka Coronavirus is hitting countries like Iran and Italy hard the numbers are out are threatening. On Thursday the Iranian authorities reported around 149 deaths in the last 24 hours.
The rate of new infections had risen to 50 an hour and “one (patient) dies every 10 minutes“, said health ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour. The count of death in Iran due to COVID-19 stands at 1, 433 at the time of writing this. A total of 18,407 people have contracted the disease in Iran, with 1,046 new cases confirmed in the past 24 hours, informed Deputy Health Minister Alireza Raisi.
Meanwhile, Professor Alinaqi Machayekhi, of Teheran’s Sharif University of Technology has given projections of disease in the country. He said, “in case of “responsible behavior”, the disease could cost 12,000 lives out of a total of 120,000 infections“, warning about the need to take serious measures.

The global pandemic has so far jolted the globe with over 10,000 deaths and cases in access of 2 lakhs. Iran and Italy have been the center of deaths beside China. Italy even overtook China in terms of death count with over 3,400 deaths reported so far.
