A 2-year-old boy name Sujith Wilson fell into an abandoned borewell on Friday evening in Tiruchirappalli. Rescue efforts were initiated quickly to take out the trapped kid. Unfortunately, the kid who was trapped at a depth of about 30 feet, slipped further inside and is now believed to be wedged at a depth of 70 feet in the borewell.
Tamil Nadu’s State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was rushed to the spot to take charge of the rescue operations. Sujith accidentally slipped into the well while playing around 5:30 PM yesterday.
Children falling into borewells are a disaster that we can seriously live WITHOUT! Effective & proactive measure must be taken moving forward, to curb this from happening again.
Many are sleeplessly praying for you. Stay strong my fighter boy! #PrayForSurjith #SaveSurjith pic.twitter.com/p2H0gu7JmR— Rebecca Shamasundari (@RShamasundari) October 26, 2019
Earthmovers were deployed to dig up a trench close to the borewell and the idea was to reach the boy by digging a tunnel but the process was suspended apparently due to rocky terrain. Teams from Coimbatore and Ramanathapuram made unsuccessful attempts at rescuing the child.
#SaveSujith was trending on Twitter with people praying for the kid to be rescued. The seven-year-old borewell is bout 1,000 feet in depth, and was located in a corn field. It opened up after recent spells of heavy rain.
