XE COVID Variant Found In Gujarat
COVID XE variant which is highly transmissible is found in Gujarat as per the sources. And a few days before Mumbai had also reported India’s first COVID patient infected with the XE variant, which has shocked many officials globally. The Health Department of Maharashtra and The central government have not yet affirmed the case.
The case in Gujarat seems to be old, and detection of Covid Variant through genome sequencing tests can take a few days to show results.
Statements From Officials On COVID XE Variant
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has asserted, “that the hybrid of two Omicron strains BA.1 and BA.2 was detected in a 50-year-old woman who had traveled to the city from South Africa in February.”
But a day later Maharashtra Health Minister said, “As per information, XE variant is 10 percent more infectious than the Omicron variant. We will talk more about it in detail after getting a report. Since we have not received a confirmatory report from the Centre or NIB, Maharashtra health department does not confirm it.”

WHO Warns About XE
Meanwhile, the WHO has warned that the new covid variant is way more transmissible. As per country’s highly experienced Virologists said, “it is not a point of concern in the vaccinated population.”
As per News Agency ANI, Gagandeep Kang who is the leading microbiologist and professor at Christian Medical College at Vellore said, “Variants will come because people are traveling. Of what we know of the variant (XE) is that it is not a point of concern.”
This Hybrid was first detected in the UK in January, as per WHO this variant is way more transmissible than other variants. It could easily infect 10 percent more than BA.2, which itself was very dominant over Omicron.
