‘Jhumka’ and Bareilly have become synonymous ever since Asha Bhosle sang the chartbuster ‘Jhumka gira re, Bareilly ke baazar mei‘. But like Delhi has ‘Meena Baazar’ to complement the line – Delhi seher ka saara Menna baazar le ke – Bareilly never had a Jhumka to complement the song.
However, that is going to change now because Bareilly has finally found its world-famous Jhumka. Installed at the Parsakhera area on National Highway 24, the Jhumka is 14-ft in height embellished with colourful stones and the city’s famous ‘zari’ embroidery.
The motive fo the installation is to not only show a connection between the piece of jewellry and the Asha Bhosle’s song but also to make it a prominent tourist destination.

To recall, once Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made a reference of the two at Kisan Kalyan Rally. “I had never been here in the past. But I have definitely heard Jhumka gira re…,” he had said.
“The collaborative effort made by the authority, various organisations and local residents in setting up the ambitious jhumka in Bareilly is commendable. It looks beautiful and unique,” Bareilly MP Santosh Gangwar had said while inaugurating the same.
The project in total, as per a News18 report, cost Rs. 18 lakhs Including 8 lakhs for the Jhumka and 10 comes for beautification.
