Vice-president Rajeev Shukla of the Board of Control for Cricket in India has stated that the Indian Premier League would begin play on March 23. Shukla did not specify the dates for the playoffs or the final in an interview with India Today on Sunday, January 12, but he did confirm the date for the first game.
Important choices on the new treasurer and secretary were made at today’s BCCI meeting, with talks centred on the duties that would be assigned. The venue for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is almost decided. The IPL 2024 began on March 22 with a match between RCB and CSK, and it ended on May 26 with KKR winning the title.
In addition, a new commissioner has been appointed by the IPL for a one-year tenure. Finalizing the team for the next Champions Trophy will be the main goal of the next meeting, which is set for January 18–19. The recently appointed BCCI secretary emphasized the hectic schedule ahead, pointing out that the IPL will start on March 23 and that the back-to-back tournaments would require a great deal of planning and attention.
The IPL 2025 Mega Auction
During the two-day IPL 2025 super auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, 182 players sold for a total of Rs 639.15 crore. After keeping their key players, the majority of the ten teams concentrated on strengthening their squads. Teams spoke extensively with the BCCI about several rules before the auction. Concerned about losing players they had scouted and developed, some organizations voiced their worries about the massive auction.
Following the release of the final list of 574 participants, the two headlining groups of players took centre stage during the auction. Many teams placed large offers for well-known players, some of whom had had tense splits with their previous teams but others had enjoyed successful spells.
After being sold for Rs 27 crore, India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant became the most expensive player in IPL history. Venkatesh Iyer (Rs 23.75 crore) and Shreyas Iyer (Rs 26.75 crore) were next in line. In the meanwhile, no bids were made for players like Shardul Thakur, Prithvi Shaw, and David Warner.
