Scholarship Rule Change: Yogi government has issued strict attendance rules for students availing scholarships in Uttar Pradesh. Scholars will now go under the Aadhaar base attendance for fee reimbursement and scholarships. In other words, students studying through scholarship must have to register through biometric identification.
Institutions including universities will require setting up an Aadhaar Based Attendance System. Students whose attendance is below 75 per cent will be ineligible for the scholarship. The new rule states that each institution will now require certifying the Aadhar Base attendance every month and uploading it on the scholarship portal.
The process for Aadhaar base attendance has started. It has also been included in the SC-ST rules. Aadhar Base Attendance can be done by thumb or fingerprints, facial recognition or by accessing the college campus from anywhere, says the assistant director of social welfare, Siddharth Mishra.

Officials say that the arrangements are to be made in order to keep the attendance details in NIC. Aadhaar based attendance system should be installed within the institution campus, university, or the agency to which the institution is affiliated. Attendance will be updated daily and then it will go to NIC. After this, the NIC will transfer the attendance data to social welfare. The attendance will be verified before scholarship distribution.
With this change in scholarship, the institute will not be able to tamper with the attendance even if they want. Till now the institutes were used to certify 75 per cent attendance and send it to the department.
