The Gujarat government on Tuesday informed that the fruit ‘Dragon Fruit’ will now be called “Kamalam” in Gujarat.
Gujarat CM, Vijay Rupani said that the reasons behind the name change are two-fold. First, the original name “is associated with China” and secondly, the outer part of the fruit resembles a lotus so, the name change.
Well, if that makes any sense, then who will tell us what banana would be called if its name is changed in the near future? Wrong answers only!!
“The state government has decided to rename the Dragon Fruit. As the outer shape of the fruit resembles a lotus, hence Dragon Fruit shall be renamed as Kamalam,” the Chief Minister was quoted by news agency ANI as saying. “The name of Dragon Fruit associated with China and we have changed it,” he added.
For the unaware, the word Lotus in Sanskrit means”Kamalam” and Lotus is also the party symbol of the ruling BJP. It is also the name of the BJP office in Gujarat, the national flower of India and the theme of the Rajya Sabha in the upcoming new parliament of India.
